Carbon Foot Printing (CFP)

carbon footprint is defined as: The total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2). When you heat your house with oil, gas or coal, then you also generate CO2.

Carbon Dioxide is the leading greenhouse gas emission produced by humans, thus contributing most dramatically to worldwide climate change. Most countries produce far more carbon dioxide than they are able to absorb, unfortunately contributing to the amount of unwanted carbon that makes its way into the atmosphere.

It is one of the most common measures of the effect of an individual, community, industry, or country on the environment. An increase in greenhouse gas emissions, and therefore in carbon footprint, is the primary event associated with climate change that has led to global warming.

When fossil fuels burn, they emit greenhouse gases like CO2 that contribute to global warming. A carbon footprint is simply a figure usually a monthly or annual total of CO2 output measured in tons.

Carbon Negative is a phrase used to describe any activity that removes more carbon CO2 from the atmosphere than you are responsible for creating.

CO2 emitted per unit for different fuel:

fuel type unit  CO2 emitted per unit
Petrol 1 gallon (UK) 10.4 kg
Petrol  1 liter 2.3 kg
Gasoline  1 gallon (USA) 8.7 kg
Gasoline 1 liter 2.3 kg
Diesel 1 gallon (UK) 12.2 kg
Diesel  1 gallon (USA) 9.95 kg
Diesel  1 liter 2.7 kg
Oil (heating)  1 gallon (UK) 13.6 kg
Oil (heating) 1 gallon (USA) 11.26 kg
Oil (heating) 1 liter 3 kg

carbon footprint is required by H & M buyer for higg index, BSCI,  LEED, BPEI, Sedex, WRAP, ICS, Wal-Mart, Buyers’ Audits, International Certification body, GSCP, IFC/World Bank, Bangladesh Bank, Govt. Officers & Various types of Buyer Code of Conduct Audits etc.

So, Air emission inventory is a essential term today for industries.
